Tar Farm Lake No. 7 at Linear Fisheries

Tar Farm Lake No. 7, often referred to simply as Tar Farm 7, is one of the more recent additions to the expansive Linear Fisheries complex in Oxfordshire. Excavated from land that was once part of Tar Farm, this purpose-dug 14-acre gravel pit has been meticulously designed to cater to the modern carp angler seeking consistent action. The lake is roughly rectangular with a large, centrally located, and heavily vegetated island that dominates the landscape. This island is a key feature, creating two distinct channels and providing a wealth of patrol routes and holding areas for the carp. Anglers positioned on either of the long banks have direct access to the island margins, which are often heavily undercut and represent prime real estate for bait placement. The island itself is a sanctuary, unreachable by casting from most swims, ensuring the fish have a safe zone to retreat to.

The lakebed is typical of a mature gravel pit, featuring a varied topography of gravel bars, silty troughs, and firm clay spots. Depths range from shallow marginal shelves of around 4-5 feet to deeper holes dropping to 12 feet, with the average depth sitting around 7-8 feet. Water clarity is generally good, allowing for effective observation of feeding activity in the margins. The swims are well-spaced and constructed from gravel and wood chippings, offering comfortable and stable platforms for bivvies and equipment. There are 18 swims in total, providing ample water for each angler. Tar Farm 7 has been developed with a high stocking density in mind, establishing its reputation as a premier 'runs water'. The primary target for most anglers is the large head of carp, which are known for being obliging and willing to feed. This makes the venue an excellent choice for those looking to build confidence, test new tactics, or simply enjoy a session with a high probability of multiple captures. While it is primarily a runs water, the lake is not devoid of larger specimens. A good number of twenty-pound carp are present, alongside a growing contingent of thirties that provide a rewarding target for those seeking a bigger fish. The fishing is productive year-round, with zig rigs in spring and solid PVA bags cast to showing fish proving to be consistently effective tactics. Due to its prolific nature, it is a popular choice for anglers of all abilities, from relative beginners to seasoned campaigners looking for an action-packed session.
