Foxes Lake is a mature, 5.5-acre water situated within the larger Wyreside Lakes complex. Established as a dedicated carp water, it has developed a reputation for challenging but rewarding fishing. The lake is relatively intimate, with only 10 designated swims, ensuring anglers have ample water to fish. This limited number of pegs prevents overcrowding and maintains a quiet atmosphere. The lakebed is varied, offering a range of features for anglers to target. Depths vary from shallow 3-foot margins to deeper 12-foot holes in the central areas. The topography consists of a mix of silt, gravel, and clay. Prominent features include several pronounced gravel bars, which are known patrol routes for the resident carp and often produce consistent action. There are also softer, silty areas that are productive, particularly during colder months when the fish seek out these spots for their thermal properties. Marginal features are significant, with established reed beds and overhanging trees lining parts of the bank. These areas provide natural cover and a reliable source of food for the carp, making them prime stalking spots or areas to place a subtle trap. There are no islands on Foxes. The water is generally clear, allowing for effective observation of fish movement in the shallower zones. The limited number of swims means that watercraft and a stealthy approach are paramount. Anglers who take the time to lead around, identify clear spots on the gravel bars or in the silt, and apply bait accurately and sparingly often reap the greatest rewards. Due to the clarity and pressure, fish can be wary. Fine-tuning rigs and presentations to match the lakebed is a key consideration. The lake is best suited to anglers who enjoy a more strategic style of fishing rather than expecting constant action. It is an ideal venue for an overnighter or a 48-hour session, providing enough time to build a swim and wait for opportunities. The stock, while not vast, contains a good head of fish with a solid average weight, making every capture a worthwhile event. The environment is mature and tree-lined, offering a sense of seclusion despite being part of a larger complex.
