Long Lake at East Delph Lakes, Cambridgeshire

Long Lake is the newest water at the East Delph Lakes complex. Formerly the fishery's stock pond, it was opened to anglers around 2020-21. At two acres, with twenty swims and a seven-angler limit, it gives anglers plenty of room, and the fishery describes it as having "the most fish, with an element of unknown".

It is the most heavily stocked of the three East Delph lakes, although the exact stock has not been published. The lake records stand at 30lb 1oz for a mirror, 21lb 8oz for a ghostie and 21lb for a common.

The lake's topography is varied and demands a thorough approach with a marker rod or lead. Anglers will find a multitude of underwater features including hard gravel bars, plateaus, deep silt pockets, and pronounced depth variations, with the bottom dropping from 4ft in the margins to holes as deep as 14ft. The layout features eight small islands, which, along with numerous bays and overhanging marginal trees, create a complex and interesting environment to fish. These features act as natural patrol routes and holding areas for the carp. Watercraft and location are paramount for success.

The twenty swims, combined with the seven-angler limit, prevent overcrowding and ensure each angler has ample water to target. The swims are constructed from woodchip and stone, providing a stable and clean base for a session.
