Front Lake at East Delph Lakes - Cambridgeshire

The Front Lake at East Delph is a purpose-built carp water engineered for action. At two acres, it is an intimate and manageable venue, holding a substantial stock of around 230 carp. This high stocking density ensures the venue fishes well throughout the year, providing consistent sport for anglers of all abilities. The lake is not a simple 'runs water' for single-figure fish; the stock is comprised of hard-fighting carp predominantly in the double-figure to low-twenty bracket, with a significant head of fish exceeding 25lb. The lake record mirror stands at 40lb 9oz, with the common record at 32lb 8oz, meaning a personal best is a realistic target for many visiting anglers.

The topography is varied and designed to provide features for both fish and fishermen. Two central islands are the most prominent features, creating natural patrol routes and holding areas. These islands are heavily undercut, providing sanctuary for the carp, and fishing tight to the island margins is a proven tactic. Depths across the lake vary from 3ft in the margins to a maximum of 8ft in the deeper central areas. The lakebed is predominantly clay, with gravel patches and areas of silt. In addition to the islands, anglers will find reed-lined margins, lily pad beds during the summer months, and overhanging trees. These features offer excellent stalking and margin fishing opportunities. There are nine purpose-built, wood-chipped swims positioned around the lake, providing ample water coverage for each angler. The swims are well-maintained and spacious enough for modern bivvies and equipment.
