Long Lake is the original big-fish water at the East Delph Lakes complex. At five acres, it was formed by joining two former lakes, the Front and Back lakes, creating a long, feature-rich environment. This water is designed for the thinking angler, offering a challenge that rewards effort with significant specimens. The lake holds a substantial stock of over 200 carp, with an impressive average weight in the mid-20s. This includes a large number of fish over the 20lb mark, a healthy population of 30lb specimens, and a select few carp that have breached the 40lb barrier, with the lake record standing in excess of 45lb. The stock is a mix of the original, historic carp known for their character and a newer generation of faster-growing fish introduced to maintain the quality of angling. The lake's topography is varied and demands a thorough approach with a marker rod or lead. Anglers will find a multitude of underwater features including hard gravel bars, plateaus, deep silt pockets, and pronounced depth variations, with the bottom dropping from 4ft in the margins to holes as deep as 14ft. The layout is dominated by two large central islands, which, along with numerous bays and overhanging marginal trees, create a complex and interesting environment to fish. These features act as natural patrol routes and holding areas for the carp. Watercraft and location are paramount for success. The eight purpose-built swims are strategically positioned to give anglers command of distinct areas of the lake, preventing overcrowding and ensuring each has ample water to target. The swims are constructed from woodchip and stone, providing a stable and clean base for a session. Due to its high stock density and the size of the fish, Long Lake is not a runs water in the traditional sense; the carp are well-educated. Anglers who are precise with their baiting and rig placement, and who take the time to find the feeding spots, will reap the rewards. It is a venue suited to anglers who have moved beyond simple runs waters and are looking to target specific, larger fish in a challenging but fair environment. It's an ideal water for long-session anglers, overnighters, and specimen hunters looking to hone their skills.
