Specimen 2 at A12 Lakes is a mature, 6-acre gravel pit, meticulously managed to provide a challenging yet rewarding experience for the dedicated carp angler. Excavated decades ago, the lake has developed a rich, natural environment, characterised by its clear water, which often necessitates a stealthy approach. The lakebed is a complex tapestry of features, a direct result of its gravel extraction past. Anglers will find a varied topography, with depths ranging from 4 to 10 feet. The bottom is predominantly firm gravel, interspersed with silt pockets, weed beds, and pronounced features such as gravel bars, troughs, and plateaus. These underwater structures are key patrol routes for the resident carp and require careful feature-finding with a marker rod or lead to exploit effectively.

The central island is the lake's most dominant feature, accessible from multiple swims. Its margins, particularly the deeper, undercut areas, are highly productive, providing both a sanctuary and a feeding ground for the carp. Overhanging trees and reed-lined banks on the far margins offer further cover and patrol routes that should not be ignored. The lake accommodates ten purpose-built swims, providing ample water coverage for each angler. These swims are constructed from woodchip and earth, blending into the natural surroundings. Due to the clarity of the water, line concealment and subtle rig presentation are paramount. Fluorocarbon mainlines and leaders are often favoured, alongside rigs that sit correctly over gravel and light weed. While the lake holds a significant stock of carp, it is not a runs water. The fish are old and wise, requiring anglers to be precise with their baiting and rig placement. A scattered approach with high-quality boilies often out-fishes a heavily-piled spot. Solid bags cast to showing fish or small, tight spod mixes over a marker can be effective tactics. The lake responds well to angling pressure but demands thought and watercraft. It is a venue for the intermediate to experienced angler looking to target pristine, hard-fighting English carp in a well-managed, secure environment. Success here is earned, not given, making each capture a significant achievement.
