Kingfisher Pool at Bugley Pools

Kingfisher Pool is the primary specimen carp water at the Bugley Pools complex. At 4.5 acres, it is the largest and most mature of the five lakes on site. The lake is purpose-built for carp angling, featuring a large central island that provides a significant patrol route and underwater feature for the resident fish. This island effectively splits the lake, creating distinct channels and fishing areas for anglers on opposite banks.

The topography is varied, with depths ranging from 3 feet in the margins to over 9 feet in the deeper central channels. The lakebed consists of clay, silt, and gravel patches, offering diverse feeding spots. Anglers are advised to use a marker float or leading rod to identify these productive areas, such as gravel bars and firmer silt pockets where carp are known to feed. The presence of the island means that accurate casting to its margins or to the features in open water is a key tactic. Overhanging trees and marginal reed beds provide further cover and natural feeding zones. There are 13 purpose-built, spacious swims surrounding the lake, all constructed with woodchips for a clean and stable setup. The swims are well-spaced, affording each angler ample water to fish effectively without encroaching on others. Several swims are designated as doubles, catering to social sessions. Access to all pegs is straightforward via a well-maintained stone path that encircles the lake, making it easy to transport gear with a barrow from the adjacent car park.

The water is heavily stocked, making it a prolific runs water. It holds a significant head of carp, primarily doubles and twenties, with a number of fish exceeding the 30lb barrier. In addition to the carp, Kingfisher is home to a substantial number of Wels Catfish, with specimens reaching over 60lb, adding an element of surprise for those targeting carp. This high stock density ensures consistent action, making it an ideal venue for anglers of all abilities, from those seeking their first twenty-pound carp to more experienced anglers looking for a productive session. Tactics vary, but small PVA bags of pellet, solid bags, and boilie approaches are all consistent performers. Fishing tight to the island margins or on the gravel bars in open water are proven methods for success.
