📝 Summary

For years, the Eurobanx series has defined adventure angling, but all epic journeys must come to an end. Today, we're diving into the grand finale, the last ride for Alan Blair and Oli Davies in Eurobanx 6. And it starts with one of the most brilliant, self-aware openings I've ever seen.

The film kicks off with a hilarious satirical piece, with Alan deadpanning to the camera that they've listened to the "feedback" and are ditching the loud music, the "silly toy rods," and the continental road trips. The new format? A two-week session at a boring UK day-ticket lake. It’s a genius nod to their critics and a perfect setup before the screen cuts to the truth: this is the final, and perhaps most ambitious, Eurobanx of them all. This film is a celebration of the entire journey, a reunion with old friends, and a testament to the community they've built across the continent.

###A Benelux Beginning: Fairytales and Pitstops### After the fake-out, the real adventure begins as the lads cross the channel into Europe. The first stop is a reunion with their good friend Gio at a truly magical venue in Belgium—a private estate lake surrounding a stunning, fairy-tale castle. The action is immediate and relentless. Arriving in darkness, they quickly locate the fish, and a chaotic night ensues. Alan lands multiple carp, including a memorable double take resulting in a big grass carp and a common in the same net.

From there, it's a quick dash into Luxembourg to meet up with their friend Jeff. In a classic "in-and-out" bread bomb session, both Alan and Oli manage to catch their first-ever carp from the country, ticking another flag off the list in just a couple of hours. It’s a perfect example of the opportunism that defines these trips.

###Swiss Secrets: Ancient Carp and Brutal Losses### The journey continues into a new country for the Eurobanx series: Switzerland. Guided by their colleague Henry, their first destination is a place straight out of a storybook—a forgotten, gin-clear lake hidden deep in a forest. The lake appears almost devoid of life, but after a careful search, they spot a single, ancient-looking mirror carp. In a tense and magical sequence, Alan stalks and lands this incredible, solitary creature. It’s a deeply personal and poignant capture, possibly one of only two carp left in the lake.

The Swiss leg then shifts dramatically as they meet up with Patrick and Selina at a large, snaggy gravel pit. Setting up in a stunning two-story boathouse, they gear up with heavy tackle for big, powerful fish. That night, Alan hooks into a monster, but after a brutal, grating fight around a submerged tree, the hooklink parts. It’s a gut-wrenching moment of loss that highlights the brutal reality of fishing for wild, unknown carp.

###The French-Spanish Grind: Redemption on the Ebro### Leaving Switzerland, the team heads into France to meet up with the legendary Mark Hofman on a series of huge, challenging public barrages. This section of the film is a true grind. The fishing is incredibly tough, the weather turns, and despite their hard work, bites are few and far between. Oli loses a big fish right at the net, and the struggle is palpable. It’s a raw and honest depiction of the lows that come with the highs.

To lift their spirits, they head south, making a quick pitstop in the south of France where Alan bags a beautiful koi before crossing into Spain. Here they reunite with their old friend Ditch on the mighty River Ebro. The change of scenery brings a change in fortune. After Ditch lands a massive albino catfish, the carp action begins. Alan and Oli boat-fish a slack area and land some stunning, dark Ebro commons and mirrors.

Their Spanish adventure concludes at a unique irrigation pond with local angler Pere. After being plagued by small carp, the session is redeemed when Pere hooks into and lands a colossal, torpedo-like common carp after a heroic battle.

###The Great Diversion: Carnage in France### With the trip half over and the fishing in France having been so tough on the way down, the team makes a crucial decision. They abort their planned 12-hour drive to Portugal and instead drive 10 hours back into France. Why? Because their friends Bastl, Flo, and Lolo are there, and they are absolutely "having it off."

What follows is the incredible climax of the film. They arrive at a 50-acre public gravel pit, and after a slow first hour, the swim erupts into total carnage. For two straight days, it is non-stop action. The team works together, baiting, playing, and netting an incredible number of fish. The highlight is Oli, who, using a bait boat to reach a spot at 200 metres, lands his first-ever public water carp over the magical 20kg (44lb) mark, and then proceeds to land two more! Alan and Bastl also get in on the action, landing multiple 40lb+ carp. It's a session of a lifetime and a complete redemption for their earlier struggles.

###The Homecoming: Paris to the UK for a Magical Finale### For the final leg, the entire crew reunites in Paris. Their first stop is the iconic Palace of Versailles, where they have special permission for a night session. While the historic venue is breathtaking, it sadly produces a blank for everyone. They move to a smaller Parisian park lake for their final night in France, where the action is immediate, with everyone catching to round off the European leg in style.

The trip concludes with a first for the series: fishing in England. They head to the Nash Lakes, where Alan and Oli fish the new lake, while Bastl, Flo, and a surprise guest—Nick from the legendary EB2 Lake Bled trip—fish the famous Church Lake. The ending is pure magic. Alan’s young daughters visit him on the bank just as his rod rips off, and he lands a beautiful scaly mirror with them by his side. But the ultimate prize goes to Oli, who lands the fish of a lifetime—a colossal, dark, and truly breathtaking mirror carp from the Nash lake.

The film, and the series, ends with a huge party at Nash HQ, bringing together friends from all over Europe to celebrate six incredible adventures. It’s an emotional and fitting end to the greatest road trip in angling.

đź’ˇ Top Tips

  • Bread Bombing at Night: Alan proves again that surface fishing isn't just a daytime method. Using a Bread Bomb with an open bail arm on a bite alarm allowed him to catch fish off the top in complete darkness in Belgium.
  • Using a Baiting Pole for Silt: On the shallow, silty estate lake, Oli used a baiting pole to ensure his rigs were presented perfectly and not buried, which is crucial for getting a bite in such conditions.
  • Heavy-Duty Gear for Snaggy Waters: When fishing the Swiss gravel pit, Alan stepped up his gear significantly to 4.5lb Scopes, 80lb braid, and 8oz leads to give him the power needed to try and extract powerful carp away from dangerous snags.
  • Stretching Fluorocarbon Leaders: Before dropping a rig from the boat in France, Alan gives his fluorocarbon leader a good stretch. This removes some of the coil memory, making it more supple and ensuring it lays flatter and less conspicuously on the lakebed.
  • Adapting Bait Size to Target Species: After being plagued by small carp on 24mm boilies in Spain, Alan's immediate reaction was to go even bigger, joking "That means only one thing. Double 24." It's a classic tactic to try and single out the bigger fish.
  • Strategic Use of Bait Boats: On the large French gravel pit where fish were holding at extreme range, Oli used a bait boat not to pile in bait, but to precisely deliver a single rig with a small handful of matching loose feed right on top of bubbling fish—a tactic that resulted in his PBs.
  • Using Ready-Tied Rigs for Efficiency: In the final stages of the trip, Alan admits to using pre-tied rigs. For long, exhausting trips, having quality ready-tied rigs saves valuable time and effort on the bank, allowing you to stay focused on finding fish.
