Welcome back, everyone! If you thought the first Eurobanx was an epic adventure, then buckle up. The lads are back, and this time, they’re more prepared, more ambitious, and heading for a destination that is the stuff of angling legend. Today, we're breaking down Eurobanx 2, the incredible follow-up that sees Alan Blair and Oli Davies embark on another gruelling road trip across the continent.
This time, the goal isn't just to see what they can find; it's a mission with a clear objective: to conquer the mythical, turquoise waters of Lake Bled in Slovenia. Armed with a van packed to the roof to avoid the gear shortages of their first trip, this film is a masterclass in preparation, perseverance, and proving that the journey is every bit as important as the destination.
In a classic display of his angling instinct, he bags the trip's first carp off the surface in the pitch-black of night—a seriously underused tactic he champions. The Austrian leg serves as a perfect warm-up, featuring a social event with the Nash team and some truly unique fishing. The highlight is Alan striking a deal to fish the mayor's private Koi pond, where he stalks and catches some of the most stunning, colourful ornamental carp you'll ever see. It’s a fun, action-packed start that showcases the variety of opportunities that lie in wait.
Prague - City Centre Stalking: Based on a tip, their first stop is the heart of Prague, right in front of the castle. They find shoals of carp and, using a stealthy approach with a drop net, Alan manages to land a couple of pristine commons. The session is cut short by the arrival of Prague's "crazy Swan lady," an irate local who is not happy about them fishing, forcing a hasty retreat.
Prague - The Gritty River: Next, they try a spot on the river by a sewage works. Despite pre-baiting, the session is quiet. It’s a realistic depiction of fishing; sometimes the spots you have high hopes for simply don’t produce on the day.
The Forest Lake Pitstop: This is one of the standout moments of the entire film. On the way to their next destination, Jacob convinces them to make a quick "one-hour" stop at an idyllic, hidden lake in a forest. After spotting some huge fish, Alan uses his "never leave home without them" maggots and, on his second cast, hooks and lands the biggest fish of the trip so far—a breathtaking 33lb forest common. It's a moment of pure angling magic.
Leaving Prague, they meet up with local anglers Yan and Robin in Colleen. They pre-bait a powerful river spot under a railway bridge before heading to a secluded, ancient gravel pit for the night. Here, Alan ventures into a wild, overgrown swim (and baits for wild boar!), where he enjoys a hectic night, landing multiple commons and a mirror.
The first couple of days are a mixture of exploring, socialising, and finding their feet. The fishing is good, with all four anglers catching beautiful Bled carp from different spots, including right in front of the town's casino and from a large set of lily pads. But it's on the second full day that the film reaches its incredible climax.
After finding a large group of fish held up by a snaggy tree line, Alan and Bastl start baiting. As a huge electrical storm rolls in, the fish go into an absolute feeding frenzy. What follows can only be described as total carnage. For four hours, it is a bite-a-minute mayhem. The team works together, rotating takes, netting fish for each other, and battling monster carp in the pouring rain amidst thunder and lightning. They land 14 fish in just over 4 hours, including multiple 30s and a colossal 20.5kg (45lb) mirror carp. It is one of the most incredible, action-packed carp fishing sequences ever filmed.
