Cromwell Lake is an exceptional 18-acre spring-fed, tree-lined specimen carp fishery located near Newark in Nottinghamshire, established in 2004 with the ambition of becoming one of the Midlands' premier specimen carp destinations. This meticulously managed water offers a challenging yet rewarding angling experience for dedicated specimen hunters and experienced carp anglers seeking quality over quantity. The lake's natural spring-fed environment creates crystal-clear water conditions that support a healthy ecosystem and provide excellent underwater visibility for observing fish behavior. With depths ranging from a minimum of 3 feet in the margins to a maximum of 20 feet in the deeper areas, and averaging 8-10 feet throughout, the lake provides varied underwater topography that carp find irresistible. The lake bed features a complex mix of prominent gravel bars, silty areas, and distinct drop-offs that create natural feeding spots and patrol routes. These underwater features, combined with various plateau areas and some natural snags, provide excellent holding areas for the resident carp population. Cromwell Lake holds an impressive stock of approximately 250 carp, with an average weight exceeding 30 pounds – a testament to the excellent water quality and careful fishery management. The stock breakdown includes around 80 double-figure fish, 120 twenties, 50 fish over thirty pounds, and an elite group of 10 specimens exceeding the magical forty-pound barrier. The current lake record stands at an impressive 47+ pound mirror carp, representing the pinnacle of the fishery's potential. In addition to the carp population, the lake also supports a head of Wels catfish, adding an extra dimension to the angling experience and the possibility of an unexpected bonus catch.

The fishery provides 19 well-spaced swims around the lake perimeter, ensuring anglers have adequate space and privacy during their sessions. Several double swims are available for those fishing with friends or partners, while one specially designed disabled access swim ensures the fishery remains inclusive for all anglers. The venue operates a booking-essential policy to maintain exclusivity and prevent overcrowding, with 24-hour sessions priced at £35 during peak season and reduced to £25 during the winter months from November to February.
