The Small Lake at Catch 22 Fishery is a 3.5-acre venue designed for action. It is a purpose-dug lake situated within the Tud Valley in Norfolk, offering a consistent and rewarding angling experience. The lake features ten designated swims, providing ample water for each angler. The layout is simple yet effective, with a large central island that is a primary feature and patrol route for the carp. This island is reachable from most swims and presents a significant fish-holding area, with margins, overhanging trees, and underwater shelves.
The lakebed is varied. Anglers will find clean gravel bars, firm clay spots, and softer silt pockets. These features are not extreme, making it an accessible water for anglers of all abilities to practice their watercraft and lead work. The depths range from shallow marginal shelves of 2-3 feet to a central channel that drops to approximately 12 feet. This variation in depth allows fish to find comfortable zones in all weather conditions, from basking in the shallow margins during sunny spells to holding in the deeper, more stable water in colder periods or high pressure.
Stocking is geared towards providing bites. The lake holds over 300 carp, with a significant head of double-figure fish and a substantial number of carp in the 20-29lb bracket. The average size is in the mid-double to low-twenty range. A smaller number of thirty-pound carp are present, with the current lake record standing at over 37lb. This makes the venue ideal for anglers looking to build confidence, test new tactics, or simply enjoy a session with a high probability of catching. The fish are known to be competitive feeders, responding well to a variety of tactics including solid PVA bags, method feeders, and spodding bait over chosen spots.
The swims are well-maintained, constructed with wood chips and offering stable, flat ground for bivvies and equipment. Access is a key consideration, with a stone track running around the perimeter of the lake, allowing anglers to park directly behind or very close to their chosen swim. This minimises the effort required to transport gear. The surrounding environment is rural and quiet, providing a peaceful backdrop for a fishing session. The lake's manageable size and high stock density make it a popular choice for day sessions, overnighters, and anglers looking for consistent sport throughout the year. It is a runs water with the potential for a larger specimen.
