Lodge Lake is the designated specimen carp water at the Cefn Mably Lakes complex. Spanning approximately 8 acres, it is a mature, purpose-built venue designed to challenge and reward the dedicated carp angler. The lakeβs topography is varied, featuring depths that range from a shallow 3 feet in the margins to a deeper 12 feet in the main body of water. This variation provides diverse habitats for the carp throughout the year. The most prominent features are two central islands, which act as natural fish-holding areas and key patrol routes. Anglers positioned with access to the islands often find success by targeting the surrounding shelves and deeper channels. The lake bed is predominantly composed of clay and silt, with firmer gravel spots discoverable through careful feature finding. Margins are lined with established reed beds and overhanging trees in places, offering excellent stalking opportunities and close-range traps.
The lake is set within well-maintained, landscaped grounds, providing a peaceful and professional fishing environment. It contains 10 purpose-built, spacious swims, constructed with woodchip or gravel to ensure comfort and stability for bivvies and equipment. These swims are strategically placed to give each angler a substantial amount of water, reducing interference and allowing for multiple tactical approaches. The stocking policy is focused on quality carp, with a high density of fish ensuring consistent action. The lake is primarily known for its large head of double-figure and twenty-pound carp, making it a prolific 'runs' water. However, it also holds a significant number of fish over the 30lb barrier, with the lake record currently standing just shy of 40lb. This makes it an appealing venue for anglers seeking to hone their skills, test new tactics, or simply enjoy a session with a high probability of catching good quality fish. Due to its reputation, booking for longer sessions, particularly at weekends, is essential.
